Fall / Winter 2007

As 2007 winds down it is apparent that the pressure on the Alberta labour market is going to remain with us for some time to come.

Our employees have been through a lot in the past three years with business volumes doubling and consistent month after month increases in work load. They seem to have resigned themselves to the new reality and we certainly want to thank all for their efforts and dedication.

We are working hard to get on top of the wave by further separating our business units to make it easier for our employees to focus on our core business. In Calgary we are opening an additional branch dedicated to the light industrial customers. This new location is on 46th Avenue just east of the current Calgary branch and will service skid steer loaders, compact tracked loaders, loader backhoes, mini excavators and small utility equipment. We have picked our team for the new location and renovations should be complete by the time you read this message. The new location will be full service with complete parts, service, sales and finance support. Stop in and see us at 1119-46th Ave SE.

In Edmonton, our new light equipment department has been a tremendous success! Under Rod Schultz we have assembled a new sales team that provides additional focus on the skid steer, compact tracked loader, and mini excavator business. With five sales team members we can provide the customer with the type of service they need in the fast paced Alberta market. Today, Hammer has people in every branch dedicated to the light equipment business. The program has paid off; we continue to be Case's largest dealer in Canada with market share in light equipment well above the national average.

The flip side of our business is heavy iron and we did not want to minimize the importance of this customer base. We understood early on that as a multi-line dealer it would be difficult to have the expertise with every product in every Sales Consultant, Parts person or Service Manager. The core products of excavators and wheel loaders were not a problem but throw mulchers, directional drills, and crushing and screening into the mix and the knowledge base gets diluted. Hammer employs Product Managers in each of these disciplines to help train the sales staff, answer customer questions, assist in delivery and setup of new units, and to help our customers and staff with any support issues that are "out of the box". Nick Popik handles drilling and trenching, Yves St-Laurent supports our mulching business and Brian Jerred takes care of crushing and screening. These are the people that support our team and in turn you, the customer.

As we work through the branch expansions, new sales teams, and additional support structure there may be issues that come up from time to time that you feel need attention or can be addressed in different ways. I'm always happy to speak to customers about their experiences and concerns, both good or bad! Call me at 1-800-784-3481 in Calgary.

Thank you for your support in 2007 and have a safe winter.
